Food Provision

Do you need help with food?

At The TCR Hub, we are able to help with supporting individuals and families who need a helping hand with accessing food, in three different ways. Please do not struggle in silence, we are here to help and there is zero judgement.

Daily

Community pantry

Daily – We run a fantastic food waste project, known as “The Community Fridge”  which mainly comes from donated supermarket surplus food. This is usually fresh food, such as fruit, vegetables, chilled goods and bakery items. It varies what is on offer each day, and most items are short dated. This is available EVERY DAY, just inside our front doors. We recommend visiting from approx 11am onwards to allow time for our volunteers to collect and sort the food. The food is available to everyone (not just those in need) You do not need to be attending an event at TCR Hub to come and help yourself to our Community Fridge, you can pop in just to rescue some food if you like! Please bring your own bag.

Twice Weekly

Community pantry

Twice weekly on Monday & Saturdays, between 9.30-10.30am, you are able to drop in to access our food pantry. You do not need a referral, it is open to anyone struggling with providing food for their home. Again, it does vary what we have available, but usually have tinned foods, pastas, rice and other non-perishables available. If you access the food pantry, please do also pop along to see what’s available at our Community Fridge too.  Please bring your own bag.

For both the Community Fridge & The Food Pantry, if you are able, there is a suggested donation of £3 per bag. This helps support the service, however this is only a suggestion if you are able to

Weekly

Care Packages TCR Hub

Weekly we also provide weekly care packages for those in need who may struggle to attend the food pantry in person. These are delivered discreetly by our volunteers on a Saturday.

We are able to offer these for families, couples or individuals, and will aim to meet dietary requirements where possible. These need to be booked in advance.

For more information on any of the above, or to arrange a care package delivery, please contact TCR Hub on 01833 690150 or email katieb@tcrhub.gmail.com

History of the Teesdale Care Package Campaign

The Teesdale Care Package Campaign was launched in March 2020, in response to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic and subsequent social distancing measures. The campaign provides trade to local businesses and provides much needed groceries to those in need in our community.

Lockdown

Lockdown created a decline in seasonal and tourist dependent employment across our community. We have also seen a number of families lose their income altogether due to loss of employment or a postponement in income. As a community organisation TCR also felt the loss of custom and bookings, however used our amazing resource to find solutions to the new needs of our community.

The Cost Of Living Crisis

Three years later, the campaign provides a vital lifeline to those continuing to be affected by the the cost of living crisis. Through the distribution of supermarket surplus via our FareShare scheme, and on-going provision of weekly care packages, TCR continues to help the most vulnerable in our community.

How You Can Help

You can contribute to the project in a number of ways:

  • Donate to our GoFundMe campaign at https://www.gofundme.com/f/rachel039s-campaign-for-teesdale-community-resources. We will use your donations to purchase grocery items from the local high street to fill our Care Packages.
  • Donate items of food, cleaning products or toiletries to our donation box situated at the Hub front door, Monday to Friday between 9:30am and 5:00pm.
  • Donate funds direct to us by emailing us at info@tcrhub.co.uk.
  • Keep an eye out for opportunities to volunteer for the project as the need grows.

We have already donated hundreds of  Care Packages to people in Teesdale.

How You Get Help

TCR receive referrals from a number of partners such as the local schools, Family Workers, YMCA, Housing Associations and local charities. We can also take a “good neighbour” referral or you can refer yourself. Support is not means-tested, and at present we just need to know that you are not able to purchase grocery items yourself. This might be due to significant loss of income, sudden increase in your own costs (for example business outgoings), inability to get out and about due to self isolation or shielding, no access to the internet to organise an online shop.

You can contact us on 07415167940. Please leave a voicemail message and we will return the call. You can email us at info@tcrhub.co.uk
