Having spoken to local families, staff in primary schools and with the growing crisis facing children’s well being and mental health, the team at TCR Hub are launching the Family Social Club to support families in our community. Family Activities Coordinator Sarah Gent explains
“The aim of the family social club is to give parents and carers space and time in the week when you don’t need to worry about what to make for tea and can access some affordable fun things to do as a family, in a safe and happy space here at TCR Hub.
We all know that families, young people and children are going through some really difficult times. The aim of these sessions is to offer some respite from the meal-planning as well as provide some family activities that can support well-being as well as being good fun.
The Family Social Club is a session open to grandparents, parents and carers with children and young people. We are targeting activities at children who are primary aged but everyone is welcome. Some activities may be inaccessible to those under 5 years but if you are happy to bring younger children along with this understanding, you are most welcome. As restrictions ease, we plan to have toys and games available for families to enjoy, as well as open the back door to you can access the outdoor space when the weather allows.
Initially, we are running these fortnightly on 15th June, 29th June, 13th July 2021. If there is a good response, we will look to continue these weekly after the summer holidays. The sessions include an activity for up to an hour, and a meal for the whole family. We are running these sessions from 4pm until 7pm to offer a window to enjoy the activity either before or after tea, depending on what suits you. So, if you come for 4pm, you can do the activity and eat tea before heading home by 6pm. However, if you come between 5 – 5.30pm, you can eat your tea prior to enjoying the club’s activity until 7pm at the latest.
Activities will vary from nature sessions, canoeing, ceramics, dance, arts and crafts, gardening…. and we are open to ideas from the group! If these sessions prove popular, we aim to start this as a weekly Family Social Club in September with a view to building the Social Club and possibly planning some trips out and about too.
When you book, please indicate the ages of your children, what time your family will be arriving (4pm for the activity, or between 5pm – 5.30pm for tea) and also please share any allergy requirements or access needs any members of the family have. If you’d like to share a few ideas of activities that would appeal, please do by emailing one of our Family Activities Coordinators Sarah Gent at firstname.lastname@example.org
Any questions or comments about the Family Social Club, please don’t hesitate to email me or call us on 01833 690150. Initially, numbers are limited but we aim to open this to up to seven families per session when restrictions allow.
We hope to see you there!
