When our Environmental Youth group heard that our local Barnard Castle Farmers Market were looking for some tech savvy, environmentally conscious young people to help them out with, we knew this was a project for us!

Barnard Castle Farmers market asked us to help them with their video, showcasing their amazing farmers market, as they had been shortlisted for the Farmers Market of the Year awards 2021. Our Project coordinator Alice, came along one Saturday morning, with a video camera to interview and document the array of stallholders and customers at the farmers market. The video was presented at the awards, and supported our farmers market in becoming runners up for 2021.You can watch this video here: http://www.barnardcastlefarmersmarket.co.uk/market-news-blog/video-intro-to-our-market/

To further develop this project, our group initiated a ‘shop local’ campaign, for Barney Farmers market, designing marketing posters for the town, encouraging locals to reduce food miles, putting money back into the local economy and shopping local!

In line with our sustainability values, we pitched one final idea to Barnard Castle Farmers market – to engage more young people with designing a more sustainable, bag for life to be sold at the Farmers market. We wrote a brief for the competition and worked alongside the market and a graphic designer to take the favourite entries and create a new jute tote bag for the market.
