Mini Meet Makes – creative family workshops to create an upcycled parade!

Making the Mini Meet
The Barney Meet may be cancelled this year but that doesn’t mean that we can’t get together to have fun and connect as a community.
To provide our local families, businesses, schools and groups with a creative opportunity, TCR Hub are running a series of workshops for families to create a Mini Meet, a homemade, handcrafted model of the Meet parade and the activities that we would usually be enjoying over Whit weekend.

Using recycled materials over a series of sessions in May 2021, everyone is welcome to join in. Making sessions are 10 – 12 noon on Saturday 15th May, 4 – 6pm on Tuesday 18th May, 10 – 12 noon on Saturday 22nd May, 6 – 8pm on Tuesday 25th May and 10 – 12 noon on Saturday 29th May. You can book your place for the making sessions here

Whether you come to a session, create handmade items at home or at school, we will welcome all handmade creations for the parade at the Hub by Saturday 29th May. Filmmaker and Animator Sheryl Jenkins will be here on Saturday 29th May for the day as in the afternoon, she is running a filmmaking workshop for families to create a film of the Meet Mini using the models created at the crafting sessions.  You can book places to that here.

Materials will be provided including cardboard, string, tape, glue, fabric, paper, wool, etc…. all you need to bring is your imagination and lots of enthusiasm! We will provide hot drinks, squash and biscuits to help fuel you during the sessions.  Making at home can be out of anything you have to hand but if you need glue and scissors, we will happily provide these. You just need to make sure your model is robust enough to travel to be part of the parade film that we will produce of everything that is made. If you’d rather though, feel free to share photos of it and we will showcase these on the website and on social media.

To attend a session, please book your place so we can manage numbers. Due to covid restrictions and social distancing, we can only welcome a maximum of six family groups to the workshop. We ask that you arrive on time but you’re welcome to leave a bit earlier or stay a bit longer… we know creativity takes the time it takes!
