Following the joyful happenings of Friday 3rd December, our thanks to Howell Film for pulling together this film of the Light Up Barnard Castle Lantern Parade. It really offers a taste of what our community enjoyed on that winter evening.
Just to summarise what happened, thanks to Covid Outbreak Managemenr Fund, TCR Hub worked in partnership with local artists Suzanne William’s and Gemma McColl (from Bright Woods Forest School with 3 primary schools in Barnard Castle (St Mary’s, Green Lane and Montalbo), Teesdale School (our local comprehensive) as well as running a workshop with the Guides, our Family Social Club and two open workshops, one at TCR Hub and the other at Bowes Museum.
These workshops resulted in the creation of 75 lanterns that were paraded by over 160 people on Friday 3rd December into the grounds of Barnard Castle’s Castle, in partnership with English Heritage.
We had over 130 people visiting the display of lanterns following the parade in the castle grounds. Numbers were restricted carefully due to covid regulations for people going into the castle grounds but there were significantly more people gathered outside the grounds who were able to enjoy the parade over Scar Top, with an estimated 300 people present.
Our heartfelt thanks to everyone who supported this project, from Barnard Castle Town Council and English Heritate to the volunteers who enabled the parade to take place and all the participants.
