Celebrating a year of Family Social Club…

As we celebrate a year of Family Social Club, what better time to reflect on what we have enjoyed over the last year during these weekly sessions and share with you some of the feedback that members have shared with us.

We know that adults benefit as much (if not more!) than children from these sessions. We have parents and grandparents who hugely appreciate the hot meal they don’t have to cook on a busy weekday night. We have families for whom a guaranteed tea every week, as well as packed tea to take home for other members of the family helps them manage financially. But also, adults try things that they would never have imagined trying… and sometimes find they like it!

Our activities have spanned a huge spectrum of different experiences, offering the range of things you can do at TCR Hub from canoeing and high ropes, recording in the music studio to dance, Taekwondo and cheerleading, gardening singing and crafts as well as inviting in guests to bring their skills and talents to share with the group. From Mary and the Elements with her sound bath, Teesdale Felt and Christine from the Rotary with her crotchet, Designer Kelly Ewing, writer Lucie Brownlee and many more.

We’ve been involved with community initiatives from the Lantern Parade and the Christmas Tree Festival, the Jubilee Memorial garden decorations and Barnard Castle Meet as well as regional initiatives like Lumiere, the Festival of Light and our very own TCR Book Festival.

It is fair to say that nothing is too much for our Family Social Club – we work tirelessly to ensure that not only do they have a good time but also feel looked after and cared for where they are with us. It’s like they are part of the TCR family.

So, you won’t be surprised to find out that we are now committed to another year of Family Social Club on a Tuesday from 4 to 7pm at the Hub in term time. It has proved to be a hugely positive, creative and enjoyable initiative and long may that last!

This is supported by The National Lottery Community Fund through our Family Activities project. Our thanks to them, to you for your support, to all our workshop leaders and volunteers for helping us this year and most of all, to those intrepid adventurers who have been along and taken part in Family Social Club, come what may and thrown themselves into any and every activity with courage and enthusiasm – it is an absolute pleasure to spend time with you all.

Whatever will we get up to next?!
