The Hub has played host to a world class group of aspiring and semi professional acrobats from all corners of the UK and Europe. Led by charismatic husband and wife team Marion Schenk and Alexander Lenz, groups of acrobats have become regular guests at the Hub as they meet together for a full intensive weekend of strength training and balancing skills.
Marion began her acrobatic career as a competitive gymnast and Alexander as an olympic weightlifter. For over 25 years they have performed and taught acrobatics having founded the acrobatic group “Forma Fortis” in Munich. Together they have performed internationally as a duo and in collaboration with jugglers, dancers and aerial artists.
Now based in Durham,“Forma Fortis” are now specialising in teaching acrobatics on all levels, starting out from standing on hands and ultimately leading on to complex balancing tricks.
To achieve successful teaching they use lifelong experience in perfecting techniques and teach the physical basics by strengthening, stretching and conditioning. But most of all they demonstrate the fun of this fascinating circus art.
Acrobatics has proved to be a family affair as talented sons Leon and Kilian, have inherited their parent’s incredible strength and skills. Despite their young age they are now teaching and performing acrobatics too.
A resident acrobat here at the Hub told us: “The Hub provides us with the height and space needed for acrobatic training, allowing us to develop and practise new skills. Training with views of the landscaped grounds and beautiful lake inspire participants to practise and succeed.”
The group reflected on their stay: “The Hub is an amazing community centre set in the heart of rural Teesdale. During the weekend stay we have a properly heated gym overlooking the lake, modern showers, clean bedrooms, full catering and a comfortable chill-out area with a pool table and table-football to help us relax and unwind”.
The Hub Team have lots more planned over the coming weeks. So if you have children aged 8 years or over interested in acrobatics, look out for some exciting news about a children’s workshop coming to the Hub over the Spring 2019!
